Warming chai spices, creamy coconut milk, and tart but sweet red plums… Escape from the mundane and break free from the monotony of boring breakfasts with this simple oatmeal recipe. Last but not least, it’s pretty…are you sold yet?
Ah, another morning, aka another quest for a satisfying, nutritious, and beautifully enticing breakfast, (at least that’s me; but I have unusual quests) Anyway, I digress…
I’ve recently been craving indian food and I thought why not satisfy this with an indian inspired breakfast? Chai, specifically masala chai, refers to a combination of indian spices. We westerners typically think of a creamy spicy tea when we hear chai (think chai tea lattes), but these spices can actually lend themselves to many unique recipes. I hope you enjoy my take on the masala chai spices with this warm and tart oatmeal recipe.
Recipe:
- 1/2 cup GF oats (or the oats of your choosing)
- 1 cup water
- 1 quality glug of culinary coconut milk ( I know glug isn’t a real measurement but I find it does the trick)
- 1 pinch of cinnamon/cardamom/sea salt/nutmeg/ginger/a teensy pinch of turmeric
- 1 red plum, cut into slices
optional: coconut shavings, walnuts, honey ( as shown below)
Beautiful presentation 🙂 never used turmeric in there before.. can’t wait to try it out 😉
thanks so much veganneeds! Let me know what you think
Oh I’ve got a new breakfast idea to try 😊.
