Spicy Cannellini Bean & Kale Marinara W/ Garlic Bread Dippers

This is one of those appetizers that looks fancy but literally takes 10 minutes to prepare. If you want to wow your guests with a dish that tastes homemade with Italian ingredients you feel good about eating, this is the recipe for you.

I partnered with Barilla to bring you this recipe– using their new Vero Gusto premium sauce line; the flavors are truly so good. The sauces are made in Italy with super simple and quality ingredients. Vero Gusto sauce is slowly simmered to perfection making it an even more perfect base for this dip.



For the Spicy Cannellini Bean & Kale Marinara Dip:

2 cups marinara sauce (I used Vero Gusto ‘Calabrian Marinara’)

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

2 large or 4 small garlic cloves (about 1 tablespoon), minced

1 shallot, sliced thin

4 large kale leaves, stems removed, thinly sliced

1 13 oz. can of cannellini beans

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or to taste)

For the Garlic Bread Dippers

4 slices of your favorite bread, I used a sourdough

2 clove of garlic

2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil

small pinch of sea salt

a few leaves of parsley to garnish, optional


In a medium to large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium high heat and add in shallots and garlic. Cook for a few minutes until the garlic is fragrant and the shallots are translucent. Next, add in the kale and sea salt and cook everything down for 5 minutes. I like to cook at medium high heat and get everything a little browned and crispy.

Next, add in the beans and marinara sauce and let all the flavors cook together on low for 5 to 10 minutes.

While the sauce is simmering, prepare the garlic bread dippers. You can either slice the bread into rectangular pieces and then toast, or toast and then slice. Either way you choose, simply toast the bread to your preference, then drizzle with olive oil and top with minced garlic, sea salt, and parsley. Plate the marinara sauce and serve alongside the dippers. Enjoy!
